If you’re convinced that increasing your own happiness could be a good thing, we still must confront the question: Will pursuing happiness work? In other words, is it even possible to increase our happiness? There are lots of opinions and cultural ideas about happiness. Though all are interesting, scientific examination can illuminate which ideas are likely to generalize - that is - to impact happiness for the better in the lives of many people, including your own. In this section we'll also discuss certain mental habits known to influence emotions, thinking and decision-making, and consider how these can get in the way of pursuing happiness.
